Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. I had such high hopes for this book. I really enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife and was very much looking forward to her follow-up novel. I did finish HFS, but I was more than just disappointed, I was quite perturbed. The book was beyond bizarre, and rather squicky.

I was curious about Her Fearful Symmetry before I picked it up (my book group did it last month), but I didn't really expect anything from it although I really enjoyed The Time Traveller's Wife--probably because I didn't expect to like TTW and thought it was just a fluke I liked it. While Her Fearful Symmetry seemed sort of easy and undemanding to read, as long as you suspended disbelief about things supernatural, but when I had finished it, I felt I hadn't liked it, and wondered why she had written such a long-winded tourism ad for the Highgate cemetery.

I was looking forward to the book very much, but I think a part of me must have known I might not like it. For the first time in a long time, I ordered it from the library instead of just pre-ordering it on Amazon (like I usually do with new books from repeat authors).

I was having trouble thinking about this one, I've had some I've not liked much, but being disappointed implies having greater expectations, at least to me it does, and so I'm going to say Doors Open by Ian Rankin. I love his Rebus mysteries and bought this one without reading anything because it was Rankin, but this one was like a throw away just to get something else out there and I all but threw it out the door!
