Date: 2009-05-09 08:18 am (UTC)Stephen King. He writes fabulous dialogue, good characters, great suspense, he can be chilling, moving and amusing in the same paragraph and he's prolific enough that (Dark Tower series aside) I never get that frustrated 'when will the next book by X be coming out?' feeling. Every new book is a foray into some different aspect of storytelling. He's a smart writer who is also easy to read.
2. Who was your first favourite author, and why? Do you still consider him or her among your favourites?
Agatha Christie. My Mum had most of her books and I discovered her very early on in my reading years (one of the first non-childish books I remember reading was Murder on the Orient Express). I still regard her a favourite because her work is at once delightfully dated and timeless.
3. Who is the most recent addition to your list of favourite authors, and why?
Alexander McCall Smith, of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency fame. His writing is evocative and thoughtful but also very simple and another easy read. I've just started the 44 Scotland Street series, and am enjoying the 'serial' feel of the chapters.
4. If someone asked you who your favourite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth? Are there any you would add on a moment of further reflection?
Stephen King, Agatha Christie, Bernice Rubens, David Gemmell, Terry Pratchett, Stephen Fry, P.G. Wodehouse, Ken Kesey, Richard Russo, Gerald Durrell. Then I would get my second wind and remember; Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Joss Whedon and Neil Gaiman. And then the other person would wander off while I got my third wind and started in with; Kazuo Ishiguru, Iain M. Banks, Jack London, Andrew Taylor, Dylan Thomas, H. G. Wells, Joss Whedon, Oscar Wilde.

Date: 2009-05-09 01:45 pm (UTC)1. Who is your all-time favorite author, and why?
First person that comes to mind is Anne McCaffrey. I'm not sure why I can read her books all the time and I never get bored with them. In her books you can find so many different words, characters, plots, ideas XD It's hard not to like her works ^^ (As you can guess I love s-f and fantasy the most ^^)
2. Who was your first favorite author, and why? Do you still consider him or her among your favorites?
Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton. After some political transformations our books market was open to variety of various authors, book's genre etc. And following my interest in s-f and fantasy I tried their works. And never been disappointed with their works XD
3. Who is the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why?
Adam Przechrzta and Monika Kozak. I like their style of writing - light with a lot of sarcasm and irony; with good plot and interesting characters. I hope their works would stay this way for a long time XD

You really are serious with this question, don't you? *sigh* Mercedes Lackey, Andre Norton, Anne McCaffrey, Adam Przechrzta, Monika Kozak, Jack London, Jules Verne, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Robert Jordan, Kira Izmajlowa, Kat Richardson, Ksenia Basztowa, Jakub Cwiek... and many more ^^
