Since we all have at least one interest in common here, I thought a friending meme on the comm might be fun. I suspect that a lot of us have more than just books in common, and who doesn't like more friends???

So, here we go...

*'Participation' can be as simple as making an entry on your own journal about a movie/episode/article/song, etc.

Basics-
Name: Nikki.
Age(ish): 21.
Location: Wales.

Books-
Favorite Books: Why do people think I can answer this question? Erk. Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising, and that whole sequence. Everything Guy Gavriel Kay's written, but especially Tigana and The Fionavar Tapestry. N.K. Jemisin's The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.
Favorite Genres: Fantasy, speculative fiction, mystery/crime, historical fiction, medieval literature, anything Arthurian...
Do you review books in your Journal? Not in this one. But if you are interested in book reviews, I pick and choose some to go on [personal profile] wilderthan, and all are available on my GR account.

Other Interests-
Do you have interests outside of books? ;) On occasion! Music, university (English Lit, emphasis on medieval lit), video games, writing...
What are your hobbies? Writing, singing, running, gaming.
Do you participate* in any fandoms? Yup. Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, NCIS, Supernatural, The Dark is Rising, Castle, Due South, Firefly... and more.

Your Journal-
What do you write about in your journal? My life. One day I might be chelping about my housemates, the next I'll be thrilling over whatever I just read, and the next I might be flailing about university...
Unlocked, Friends/Reading List Only, a mix? Access only, for the vast majority of the time, but mostly just because I refer to people by their real names.
What type of person are you looking to friend? Anyone who shares interests with me. Preferably people who like to chatter via comments.

What else should we know about you? If you have a problem with liberal pansexual Unitarian Universalist female Welsh non-neurotypical people, we really won't get on. Still, disagreeing with my opinions is not a dealbreaker: you just have to be prepared to be respectful.

Sorry. That's on my mind lately, after an argument with someone who somehow felt calling me crazy wasn't offensive. I am very easy to get along with, generally, and non-judgemental of others' beliefs.

Have you read Mary Stewart's Merlin trilogy? I read "Hollow Hills" and "Last Enchantment" when I was 13 and they remained my favorite books for a decade. They (and historical novels of Sharon Kay Penman) also influenced my choice of a career as a medieval historian.

Favorite Books Ever-changing. At the moment, authors I'm enjoying include Nalo Hopkinson, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Emma Donohughe and Terry Pratchett.
Favorite Genres Fantasy, SF, historical fiction, science and history nonfiction. I read a lot of young adult fiction.
Do you review books in your Journal? Sometimes. I've been trying for the last two years to review ALL the books I read, and I usually get hopelessly behind somewhere around March. So these days it's more periodic Thoughts On Books rather than formal reviews.

Other Interests-
Do you have interests outside of books? ;) Yes!
What are your hobbies? Hiking, birdwatching, nature photography, historical reenactment, crafts.
Do you participate* in any fandoms? I have in the past, with a different journal. These days I lurk, and occasionally squeal about Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon, obviously).

Your Journal-
What do you write about in your journal? Daily life, nature stuff, sewing/embroidery/historical projects, books.
Unlocked, Friends/Reading List Only, a mix? Mixed. Daily life stuff tends to be access-only, stuff I think people might find interesting--book talk, nature photos, historical babble--tends to be public.
What type of person are you looking to friend? People who like similar genres and are interested in discussing books critically, including from a gender/race/sexuality/etc. intersectional viewpoint.

What else should we know about you? Uh, I post a lot. A LOT. Right now I am (slowly) doing the 30 Day Book Meme, which with my post a while back on Mindful Reading should give an idea of my approach to books.

Books-
Favorite Books: Favorites are hard, but here it goes, The Dresden Files - Jim Butcher, Under Heaven - Guy Gavriel Kay (this book finally knocked Tigana out of the top spot for Kay novels in my head), The Chronicles of Amber - Roger Zelazny (yes both the Corwin and Merlin chronicles, but not the new books), Time Enough for Love - Robert A. Heinlein, The Dark is Rising Sequence - Susan Cooper, The Diaries of the Family Dracul - Jeanne Kalogrodis, Gideon Oliver mysteries - Aaron Elkins, Little Brother - Cory Doctorow, Cryptonomicon - Neal Stephenson, and I have a great love of Classic French literature (not in translation) and Contemporary Russian Lit mostly in translation because my Russian isn't that good yet.
Favorite Genres: Hmm, I suppose the French and Russian Lit should have gone here instead. Also Urban Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Alt. History, Arthurian stuff, Vampire novels, and mysteries.
Do you review books in your Journal? (Y/N) Yes, sometimes. I tend to not, and then after I've read a bunch of stuff I post about them all in either exhausting detail or with teeny tiny little reviews. I always mean to write book reviews in a timely fashion.

Other Interests-
Do you have interests outside of books? ;) Politics, cooking, needlecrafts, and fandom.
What are your hobbies? Aside from reading, they're pretty much writing, cooking, and needlecrafts. I'm just starting to experiment with jewelry making which may or may not become an actual full-fledged hobby.
Do you participate* in any fandoms? From time to time. I'm typically not real active in fandoms, but right now you'll catch the occasional stray post about: Supernatural, Merlin, Hawaii five-0, Leverage, White Collar, and Criminal Minds. I also make fairly infrequent fannish recommendation posts that cover a wide array of fandoms. I've got somewhere in the vicinity of 80 fandoms listed in my tags, and I mostly use the fandom tag to tag my rec posts these days, so I'd guess there are about that many fandoms covered in there.

Your Journal-
What do you write about in your journal? Real life (my job, my adorable nieces, my crazy family and their crazy problems), Politics (which totally should not count as real life), books I read, movies I watch, television I watch, fandom, and occasionally fiction that I've written (fannish mostly, but I think I've posted a short original piece or two).
Unlocked, Friends/Reading List Only, a mix? Mixed, but mostly unlocked.

What type of person are you looking to friend? Most any type of person. I'm a social and economic progressive who doesn't mind being labelled a socialist and also a Christo-Pagan (so not typically recognized as Christian by Christians) who self-identifies as Queer. I live in a bible belt, ultra-conservative, Red state that spawned Fred Phelps and seems to mostly be famous for him and the bombing of abortion clinics (or our idiotic state schoolboard that mandated that we stop teaching evolution a few years back). I'm used to conflict, but I don't really want it on my journal. I don't mind and very much welcome open and honest discussion, but I don't want to fight. The difference is subtle and mostly in tone, but it's a big deal for me.

What else should we know about you? Hmm, anything I didn't cover in the friend question. I suppose that I should mention that I sometimes drop off the face of the earth (or at least the internet) for a month or two at a time without any warning, only to reappear and post 3 times in one day and then more sporadically for a few weeks.

What are your hobbies? Err, pretty much what I've stated above.
Do you participate* in any fandoms?Sure. When I was younger I was pretty big into the Harry Potter fandom, particularly Harry/Draco. Now, what I'm interested in includes Sailor Moon (I love both Haruka/Michiru and Haruka/Usagi, although the latter is more on the affectionate/sexual side for me), Persona (mostly 3), Daria, Zelda, Cowboy Bebop, South Park... Unlocked, Friends/Reading List Only, a mix? Whatever the situation calls for! I do talk about life a lot there.
What type of person are you looking to friend? Er. Anyone who nerds at near the same frequency as I do?

What else should we know about you?
I'm forgetting whatever I should be writing here. This is probably indicative of what you'd be getting yourself into.

I am always late to the party!

Do you review books in your Journal? (Y/N)
Yes, since the start of this summer holiday :) For a quick index list, check here and scroll down to number 63 in July.

Other Interests-
Do you have interests outside of books? ;)
Reading! Writing stories, drawing, singing, languages, travelling.
What are your hobbies?
See the previous question :)
Do you participate* in any fandoms?
I'm part of the Animorpsh community on LJ and member of a Beauty and the Beast (Disney movie) forum. I don't write that much about fandom things. But at the moment I'm into the BBC Merlin tv series :D (since it started airing on Dutch tv) so I started reading Merlin-related books too to fill up the months between the series airing on BBC.

Your Journal-
What do you write about in your journal?
Book reviews mostly at the moment, but also daily life stuff (friends-locked though), music I like, photos (linking to my Japanese weblog though) and my drawings and stories.
Unlocked, Friends/Reading List Only, a mix?
Most entries are public, some things friends-only.
What type of person are you looking to friend?
Someone who also likes books, I think! I like reading about books, but I also like reading about daily life stuff. And otherwise most entries in my journal would be boring for that person to read...

What else should we know about you?
I'm studying at university, so very busy actually XD But I still find the time to read.
